Ep.1 Enterprise Transformation in Challenging Times

Mark Forman
DIS

In the studio is Mark Forman, Executive Vice President at Dynamic Integrated Services. He has a distinguished career in and out of the federal government. His ability was recognized when he was named the first Federal Chief Information Officer for the Federal Government. This puts him in a perfect position to comment on enterprise transformation in challenging times.

Mark is on the podcast to provide observations about accomplishing digital transformation in today’s fast-changing climate. For example, here we are in March of 2020 and the federal technology is starting to recover from COVID and, now, cyber-attacks are occurring at a feverish pitch all over the world. How can the federal government hold its own in the superheated environment?

"I think the multifactor authentication and the zero trust approach go hand in hand"

Mark Forman, Vice President Dynamic Integrated Services Tweet

Mark comments about three areas:  relationships among leaders; deploying Zero Trust; and understanding multi-factor authentication in the federal environment.

It is possible the federal IT leaders in each agency may be familiar with a successful road map to digital transition, but the appointed leaders may not have a grasp on what is necessary. In his experience, Mark suggests communications channels must be effective throughout every organization.

When Mark looks at authentication when an environment includes legacy applications and hybrid clouds, he likes to use the term “spaghetti-like.” Zero Trust must start at accurate identification, and some federal systems may be too convoluted to offer an easy solution.

During the interview, Mark Forman observes that multi-factor authentication must be part of a digital transformation. It may provide the most bang for the buck when it comes to rapidly improve an agency’s cybersecurity posture.

Mark provides the voice of reason in today’s complex federal IT world.
